The basic rules of roulette

Roulette is among the casino games with some of the easiest rules. It is a spinning wheel with 37 or 38 numbered sectors on the table next to it, depending on the type of roulette.

European and French roulette have sector numbers from 1 to 36, which are black and red, and sector 0, which is green.

American roulette also has sector numbers 1 to 36, which are also black and red, and sectors 0 and 00, which are green.

In each of the game types, players use chips that are a different color for each of them. With these, they can choose from multiple combinations to make their bet. In addition to the basic rules, there are a few more special ones that change the way the game is played to some extent. The most famous and used ones are “Share”, “Surrender” and “En Prison”.

The “Share” rule

In this rule, players can apply so-called equal odds. They choose between even/odd, black/red or small/large (1/18 and 19/36) numbers. Thus, if one of them bets with equal odds and the ball lands in sector 0, half of the bet made is returned to him.

The “Pass” rule

The "Pass" rule

This rule is used in American roulette and is essentially the same as “Share”. It applies to sector 0 and sector 00, and if the ball lands in one of them on the spin, then half of any bet placed is returned to the player.

The “En Prison” rule

Under this rule, instead of half of an equal chance bet being returned to the player, it remains on the table. The croupier places a marker on it to indicate that it remains “in jail”. This bet is then evaluated on the next spin and if it wins, the original bet is returned to the player, but if it does not win, then the player loses the bet.
